ATLANTA, Ga. – Judge Glenda A. Hatchett, a successful attorney, former Chief Judge in Georgia, and host of the long-running syndicated television show Judge Hatchett now in its 23rd season, has joined prominent Atlanta law firm Stewart Miller Simmons Trial Attorneys in an of-counsel role.
In her role with the firm, Judge Hatchett will provide legal guidance and expertise in the areas of catastrophic injury and wrongful death, medical malpractice, and civil rights.
For more than 40 years, Judge Hatchett served as an attorney and judge in addition to her duties as a television personality. Judge Hatchett has served on the board of directors for three Fortune 500 companies and served as an advisor to the NFL Atlanta Falcons Football Team and consulted with the National Basketball Association. She is active in a number of charitable endeavors including being a national spokesperson for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and having served on the National Board of Governors of the Boys and Girl Club of America.
Judge Hatchett was formerly the Chief Presiding Judge of the Fulton County Juvenile Court —becoming the first African American Chief Presiding Judge of a state court in Georgia and head of one of the largest juvenile court systems in the country.
SMS Trial Attorneys was founded by L. Chris Stewart, Justin Miller, and Madeleine Simmons. Stewart has handled some of the most high-profile police shooting and brutality cases in the nation including representing South Carolina man Walter Scott who was shot in the back and killed as he ran from a North Charleston police officer. Stewart, Miller, and Simmons were also part of the lead counsel team representing George Floyd. SMS Trial Attorneys has also represented many victims of sexual assault, with Stewart earning the country’s first-ever billion-dollar jury verdict in a sexual assault case.
Stewart said that everyone at his firm has admired Judge Hatchett over the years and the ability to work directly with her is a dream come true.
“All of us at SMS Trial Attorneys are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Judge Hatchett, who is certainly one of the most well-respected and talented attorneys in the country, ” said Stewart. “Her valuable insights, connections and wealth of experience will make us all better attorneys and advocates. Additionally, her commitment to charitable endeavors and social justice aligns perfectly with our firm’s vision.”
According to Judge Hatchett, the opportunity to join the burgeoning law firm was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
“I am proud to be joining forces with this powerhouse firm whose attorneys have handled some of the highest-profile cases around the country,” said Hatchett. “While I’ve been fortunate to have had a successful career spanning more than four decades, working alongside the incredibly talented attorneys at Stewart Miller Simmons Trial Attorneys is poised to be one of the highlights of my professional life.”
